tl;dr you have to rewrite all your stack to get the performance you want out of Opus 5 but then it rocks. I see all the posts of people complaining about how bad Opus 5 is. And it is true, the verbosity (which then eats context, which causes drift) is tough. But when you edit your agent definitions, skills, and change the process to suit Opus 5 (and see the https://platform.claude.com/docs/en/build-with-claude/prompt-engineering/prompting-claude-opus-5)… . It starts to work quite well. They’ve also trained it so it doesn’t make as many “bad” unrecoverable decisions, but it does seem like they’ve lowered the temperature as well.
