On the occassional time I am working interactively and I see ‘writing memory’ I immediately abort and set the rule ‘never use memory’. Instinctively, a completely unstructured, arbitrary source of random data, outside of a repo, just seems like a terrible idea. A bit like just having a load of loose documents rather than a database. I’ve not found any circumstance that I wouldn’t get more predictability in other ways: Simple rules in agents.md/claude.md More complex rules in skills, or specific documents / developer guides in a repo More complex data in a database, even if that database is just another git repo containing markdown I’m wondering if I’m missing something. When I see various tech products offering ‘unified memory across services’ it reeks of the same thing - unstructured / non-deterministic and therefore kind of useless. submitted by /u/dwmkerr
