I am an adult man(33) living in the South. I understand and take pride in practicing basic hygiene, so I shower daily and know how to iron my clothes that I plan to wear out. A few months ago I started to realise…I kind of just default to T shirts or whatever’s on sale and comfy. I have no idea what kind of clothes I like and no idea where to start looking. I work a remote desk job with no dress code, and very little social interaction. I have a few very precious loved ones I’m close with, and I won’t call myself a social butterfly. I feel ashamed trying to broach the subject to my sister or my parents. The biggest “trigger” I guess, a few months ago in an MMOPG i play, i made some female and non-binary friends. They talk about their outfits and share pictures of themselves dressing up. Some of them wear very bold subculture fashion, which I don’t think is what I want, but I’m jealous that they know what kind of fashion they like and can express themselves. I tried asking them for their opinions but all their styles are more girly cutesy and they didn’t know how to help. One of the goth chicks said she started in the days of livejournal and tumblr, so she followed tags and users related to fashion styles she liked, she manually saved the jpgs into her computer and used those as guides to look for things she could buy. But she also warned that nowadays social media just spams a lot of unrelated gen-AI spam when you search for anything, and gen-AI fashion ads are not reliable to buy from and they are bad choices for fashion inspiration (ai can generate clothes impossible to actually produce) Also, I’m single and thinking to put myself on a dating app in the future…and I don’t want to be that guy that gets ignored for not dressing better. It’s not my main goal here but I’m lying if I say I don’t care at all what women think. It’s really embarassing to admit…but…how do I learn to look better? I don’t think I look good…I want to be more confident in how I look. I feel SO lost I have no idea where to start. I wish I knew about queer eye earlier…please don’t make fun of me I feel so stupid not knowing this as an adult submitted by /u/reparationsNowToday
