A followup on an earlier post. Despite Hard clues being better on paper, in practice many mains and Irons have Hards in excess. Medium Clue Scrolls, which are the only tier that has something critical for progression (Ranger Boots), are strangely one of the rarer clue scroll tiers. They are not ‘hard’ to get - Puro-Puro and Falador Guards drop them in spades. But they are not gathered like other tiers. Hards and Elites are passive bonuses from doing PvM, but Mediums are anti-passive. You have to go out of your way to get the 300 clue scrolls to get rangers. A very common source of scrolls is Slayer. However, as Slayer is such a backloaded skill, nearly every single Mob drops Hards. Along with Hellhounds being Hard dispensers, a lot of the other tasks just constantly spam you with hards. Mortimer has exemplified this. It’s not uncommon to end up with 15 or 20 Hards just by doing 2-3 Mortimer tasks, especially with the Clue Scroll modifier. As a result, Mortimer’s buff tends to almost always just be more Hards. I’ve attached the below table so you can see just how bad it is. Now, this balance didn’t really matter, as you didn’t interact with the vast majority of Slayer mobs. You did the barrage/cannon tasks to 99 and then the heart tasks. But Mortimer has players engaging with far more Slayer content, and as a result, it’s probably worth taking a look at rebalancing this away from Hards! The notable points are: Wilderness tasks have way, way higher clue rates with Ring of Wealth (i). The added risk of the Wilderness Slayer cave should be taken into account when balancing these. Some tasks have multiple clue tiers. Jellies are currently Hard Scroll BiS and while it would make sense to change Jellies, we shouldn’t mess with the BiS that people are doing. So I thought of the below changes. Cave Crawlers, Crawling Hands, Rock Slugs gain Easy Clue Scrolls (From None) at 1/128. These are pretty easy earlygame tasks or filler content, and I think it just makes sense. They’ve already got very bad drop tables but it makes doing these taks a bit more stimulating - there’s a chance of getting an easy which could save you some HAM pickpocketing if you’re sending Easies to Watson for Masters. Basilisks and Infernal Mages to Mediums 1/128 Normal Basilisks are somewhat worthless in terms of drops unless you get Knights. This gives Basilisks a good source of mediums, especially with a Morty task. Same with Infernal Mages. Bloodvelds to Medium (1/256) Not actually increasing the drop rate. Bloodvelds are already great XP and have a variety of places to do them, so we shouldn’t be overloading the drop tables, just going from Hard to Medium to squish the tiers. Gryphons to Medium (1/100), Hard (1/512) Again, just squishing the tiers down. Gryphons are tough and have some mechanics so I think they’re great for something that could drop both, like the later tasks do. Custodian Stalkers to get Mediums, the rate increasing from 1/256 to 1/64 depending on the difficulty Custodian stalkers are a cool mob and it’d be nice to have a bit more of a reason to farm them. As they have an in built difficulty check between Juvenile, Mature and Elder, I think that they could get Mediums and scale upwards in drop rate as you kill the more dangerous ones. Turoth to get Mediums (1/128) with Hards being 1/256 A bit of a more odd change but Turoths are both low level AND require specific equipment to get. I think that they’d be a great example of something on the ‘cusp’ for hards. So you’d get Mediums at the current drop rate more often, with the rest being untouched. Dust Devils to Medium (1/256), (1/128) in Wilderness (1/64) with Ring of Wealth I This is the big one. Ideally, we just swap this and Jellies but we’re trying to not touch the BiS. With Dust Devils getting Mediums, the task gains a bit more value. Since it’s already very valuable, the base is going to be 1/256. However, in Wilderness with a Ring of Wealth (i) you’d see a lot of Mediums. This’d become the ideal way - get a Mortimer Clue tasks, run to the Wilderness Slayer Dungeon, go nuts. This would also neatly make the best way to get Elites (Artio), Hards (Jellies/Hellhounds) and Mediums (Dust Devils) all in the Wilderness, making it so that the highest risk activities are the best to collect Mediums. You could also just swap this with Jellies, so Jellies are a Medium Farm and Dust Devils become a Hard farm. Or just keep Abyssal Demons in Wilderness as a hard farm. The above changes would make Mediums similar to hards in that a long slayer session might leave you with a couple to do post-task, especially with a Slaughter. This brings Mediums in line with Hards and Elites as something that you CAN farm for actively, but you will also get a passive stream engaging in normal PvM like slayer. Do you agree with these changes, or do you think they err too much on the edge of ezscape? submitted by /u/Shaserra
