(Copied and pasted verbatim a post I tried making a couple of days ago that seems to not have worked, not sure why) TL;DR: Either I’m super unlucky, or the bear demi-boss spawns *a lot* more than the other two. Or I’m dumb and missing something here, which is honestly the most likely explanation! I am an avid speedrunner of the corrupted gauntlet, even long before the recent prep changes. Since the new prep changes, I’ve been grinding for a massive personal best (got a 4:37.20 the other day, pretty happy with that one!). Each run, I always check the room directly across from the Hunleff for a demi-boss, which is now guaranteed to contain one because of the summer sweep up changes. Pathing directly away from Hunleff is the quickest way to find a demi-boss, and is a strategy even non-speedrunners use. I began to feel like I was seeing *way* more bears than dragons/beasts in that first room. So much so that I decided to run an experiment for a sanity check. Bear is also the worst first demi-boss to see for a speedrun in that first room, since meleeing Hunleff while trying to redemption his hits is drastically harder than maging/ranging it. I ran 3 tests, where I entered the corrupted gauntlet and ran straight to the room directly away from the Hunleff, and recorded the demi-boss I saw in there, 50 times (for a total of 150 times across the 3 tests). These tests were just for recording that first demi-boss I see, not for checking adjacent rooms and recording every single demi-boss. Here are the results: Test 1: bear=33 beast=10 dragon=7 Test 2: bear=28 beast=13 dragon=9 Test 3: bear=29 beast=13 dragon=8 Since each demi-boss should spawn equally at 1/3 chance in that first room, these results seem wrong to me. Now I’m not super savy with statistics, so someone who is can definitely let me know if this is not a large enough sample size, or if this is still within the realm of me just being unlucky. I’ll probably run another test or two tonight if I feel up to it.
