10 years developer here, as the title says, I don’t use any skills though I have heavily incorporated Claude Code in my workflow. I haven’t written a single line of code for months and am happy with the code that Claude generates (not always on the first try) but in my company they all seem to be talking about using skill for this or that, like creating mermaid diagrams, or following a pre determined set of questions to answer when designing a new feature … I mean, I already did this before AI was a thing, and from the few tests I did with our internal skills framework it seems to be burning tokens at the speed of light for a benefit I just don’t see yet. I just tried to ask vanilla Claude to generate a mermaid diagrams with the different steps of how to do a pizza and it worked perfectly. So here I am, sell me on Claude skills and why I should use them because at this point I’m just afraid to ask what they’re all so excited about that I can’t do with vanilla Claude. submitted by /u/mkp0x
