My girlfriend is out of the country on a 6 week academic trip. We have been together for two years and she is moving in next year. Due to a three hour time difference, she always wants to FaceTime in the evening. Honestly, scheduling my nights around a call is becoming a burden. When I work late, the added responsibility of a scheduled call is stressful. I hate having plans after work. I want the freedom to grab food on the way home and live without a schedule, and because I feel tied down, I end up disengaged on the phone. I love her and our relationship is solid, but I strongly prefer face to face time. I would understand this level of communication in a long term long distance relationship, but this is just an extended trip. I am completely unconcerned about going a few days or a week without a video call. It is actually nice having a few weekends to myself to decompress and see old friends. Right now, the daily FaceTime expectation just feels like a chore. For guys who have navigated extended trips apart, I would like to hear how often you FaceTime and for how long. I am also curious how you handle communication without feeling tied down to a strict daily schedule. submitted by /u/EsperandoVida
