Original Reddit post

Somehow I had this question pop up on my mind. Currently on this sub there are several active posts in German and French on the sub front page with many replies in English. Since there are regularly posts in German, French and Italian, aside of the English posts, I do wonder how often it happens that you see a post in German/French/Italian, but you don’t understand it. Do you usually still click on the post, translate the title and participate in the comments in English, or do you ignore those posts alltogether? I do wonder if there is a trend difference between expats/immigrants and local Swiss (i.e. Swiss-French/German/Italian who learned German/Italian/French in school but forgot due to lack of use) EDIT: on a side note, I wonder how many other subreddits there are on Reddit where it’s common to see posts in four different languages (English, German, French, Italian) with its users interacting together in English on those posts regardless of the post title language. It’s so fun to see a post in German/French and everyone replies in English and it’s like totally normal for users of r/Switzerland to do that. submitted by /u/askswitzerland
