Efficiency is a foundational goal of AI, primarily due to energy/cost concerns. And before AI, the most recent hallmark for data mining efficiency was the algorithm (e.g. the “doom scrolling” algorithms that have resulted in recent lawsuits for the harm they cause). So it stands to reason that the purveyors of AI would be best served by incorporating these algorithms as a base. If it’s not already obvious, the problem I see is that the most prolific algorithms used as a basis for AI models are those used to addict users for private gain. So whether you’re using AI to find some clothes or even draft a lawsuit against Meta, the end goal of the AI itself is to maximize profits for the creators. Given the above, and the fact that public companies have boards requiring focus on profit for shareholders above all else, I’m curious how someone might argue against this position. submitted by /u/TrumpSexedHisDaughtr
