I’m not a fan of AI for theft, job-stealing, slop, psychological and environmental reasons. I’m attempting to find an alternative to Gemini (RIP google assistant) and I found one called Dicio that says all speech processing happens locally, and I should download an AI model (Vosk) in advance. I can’t quite parse out if Vosk uses any GenAI (I don’t think so?) but just in case it does, I thought I’d ask. If it is still GenAI, then downloading a local model purely to do Assistant tasks seems like it neatly circumvents every issue I have with AI. Have I understood it right? Are there any other ethical issues I’ve missed? Am I a dumb who not know how computer work? submitted by /u/SmolHumanBean8
