I grew up without a real father figure too, but I’m a woman, and I’m sure it affects boys and men pretty differently. I know how it affected me, and there are certain things I can work on, but there are also things that feel so deeply tied to how I grew up that I don’t think they’ll ever completely go away. It made me realize I’ve never really understood what the male version of that looks like. How did growing up without a dad affect the way you were brought up, your personality, how you see yourself, your friendships, family relationships, romantic relationships, or just the way you move through life in general? And what are the things that stuck with you even after you became aware of them and worked on yourself? Like patterns or feelings you can manage better now, but can’t necessarily just get rid of. What does that look like for you? submitted by /u/pinkshotgvns
