I finally found a word for what I’m feeling. -FOBO is a mental condition that has arisen because of AI. It’s different from “fear of losing your job”. It’s a fear that “I will have nothing to contribute to society.” -Some people believe that what motivates humans is just money and status. All we care about is just how much money we make, what we get out of it, and if we do something for somebody else it’s only because deep down we believe we will gain something or it’ll make us look good. If we could get the same salary, but our job would just be “Type prompts” we would be just as happy. -I believe this applies to some people, but they are the exception. Most people are not like that. Even if we hate our jobs, even if we hate our boss, even if all we do when somebody asks us about our job is complaign about it, we need this feeling that we’re doing something useful for somebody else, that we’re contributing to something, that somebody needs us. -At this point people have the most FOBO when it comes to their jobs. But I think FOBO will reach other areas of our life too. -It already reached art. You could make more money with art by just typing in prompts, but then it wouldn’t feel like you contributed to the art in a meaningful way. You would be obsolete. That’s FOBO. That is why people hate AI art. -There is already an AI (Orchid) that is designed to take over all of your decisions, not just the ones related to your job, but in your day-to-day life. “Should I do something exiting for my girlfriends one-year-aniversary? And what?” “What should I cook?” “May Baby is crying. What do I do?” Will that come with a lot of FOBO? submitted by /u/SuperbRiver7763
