THIS IS A CROSSPOST FROM R/RUNESCAPE, ORIGINAL POST FROM u/Sophiaphage

https://old.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/1vn3cor/psa_misplaceditems_is_now_a_scam/ Not a post I wanted to make, but I see people still using MisplacedItems for RS player counts, and since there has been no public clarification about what the site is currently doing, I feel the community needs to stay informed. I have spent a considerable amount of time researching MisplacedItems since December in an attempt to preserve its data. After the original owner dropped the site in February, it was purchased in March by a gambling company (which you can locate that info yourself). The RuneScape player count page is now an AI-generated dashboard that uses fraudulent numbers, despite its footnote claiming that it collects player counts every five minutes. If you open Developer Tools and review the HTML, you will see that the code uses a random number generator called Mulberry with the seed “42069”, a meme. It also hardcodes the following: OSRS minimum: 55,000 OSRS range: 80,000 RS3 minimum: 12,000 RS3 range: 22,000 12% weekend increase Fake daily activity patterns Event spikes Random noise 15% artificial growth The code even notes the result is “demo data.” If people want accurate player counts, they can use: aggrgtr OSRS Player Count PlayerCount.dev RS PlayerCount RunePixels Or you can use the counts from the OSRS homepage and the RS mainpage and do a little subtraction. submitted by /u/Potica6857
