I am a clinical psychology doctoral student. I do couples counseling and it’s alarming to me how frequently men are called narcissists during periods of relational conflict. Either narcissism is substantially under diagnosed or people have no idea what narcissism truly is. I’ve heard many people use the label “narcissist” for a man who is simply upset, stressed, or dysregulated during a disagreement. Dismissing someone feelings or acting in a way that could be perceived as selfish isn’t inherently narcissism. Additionally, I’ve noticed that when men set boundaries it’s often viewed as a controlling behavior. Pathologizing normal behaviors is extremely dangerous. This is just my experience and I’m sure men may use diagnostic labels to describe their partners behaviors too. I am just wondering what others think or have experienced! submitted by /u/Patient_Hedgehog_371
