I’m 21, asexual, and very lonely. I’m a very quiet and reserved person, quite solitary and introverted, and I only speak when I feel like what I have to say is relevant. I don’t like crowds or noise. I’d like to be in a relationship with a woman who is similar, someone who understands these feelings, a woman who also prefers peace and quiet to chaos. I feel like I wouldn’t stand a chance with an extroverted person anyway. I’ve tried joining several different clubs without success. I was often picked last or even forgotten. When I was a student, I tried to connect with people in my class by making a shared cloud folder with my lecture notes. Eventually, another guy from the class did something similar, but his notes were better formatted. He was thanked by the class at the end of the year, received gifts, and ended up getting into a relationship with a girl from the class. I wish I could skip the whole flirting and dating phase, and I think that might be more feasible with an introverted person, who I imagine would be more logical and less focused on feelings and emotional unpredictability. I’m only 21, but I feel like I’m completely missing out on life. Some friends tell me stories about intense experiences that I would have loved to have as well. One friend told me that in high school, he ran away to the countryside for a week with a girl he was flirting with because her parents disapproved of them. Another showed me messages he received from a girl he was flirting with, messages where she said she dreamed about him and invited him to do all sorts of things with her. These stories are full of intensity and intimacy, and I wish I had experienced that too, but I was very focused on my studies. Now that I’ve failed at them, I work in a nursing home with terrible hours. I’ve never had any real closeness with anyone. I have a few good friends, but I’ve never had a female presence in my life. I’ve never felt loved or appreciated for who I am. If you have any stories or advice related to the original question in the title, I’d love to hear them. submitted by /u/FireEmblemFates2
