Married, three kids. There are days where I simply feel like a ‘service provider’. And even though if each of the four people in my life (wife, three kids) ask me for 3 things a day, that’s 12 things that I’m constantly providing - going out and grabbing a Starbucks, making a snack, clearing up a mess, running an errand, a school commitment, etc. This life is exhausting. On top of that, I feel my money is constantly being drained by the humdrum daily expense of life - school lunch money, new shoes, allowance money, replacing groceries that are gone in 2-3 days, etc. The house is full of incessant noise and mess. I find myself more and more going to real estate sites and pulling up 1 bedroom beachfront condos, some of which I could afford. I find myself fantasizing about this simple and peaceful life. Of waking up and opening my patio door to the ocean breeze and sound of the surf. Living a simple life of walking the beach, hitting the gym, doing some grocery shopping and then bringing it home to make myself a nice dinner, before finishing the evening on my patio with a glass of wine watching the waves. This life of taking out trash, cleaning bath tubs, washing dishes, turning off lights, clearing up after pets, solving everyone else problems and cooking, paying, providing, etc is taking a toll on my mental health. I’ll NEVER be the asshole who walks out on his wife or becomes a deadbeat dad. So that’s all this is - just a fantasy. Like buying a lottery ticketing and thinking about all the things you’d buy with the money. But seriously – what’s the solution? Like many men, I feel trapped and increasingly miserable. submitted by /u/Technical-Mix-3315
