<RANT>
I am quite very-well accustomed to having to “remind” Claude about things in general. preferences, gotchas, local environment details etc. but TODAY, Monday 8/17/26, is SO much worse!
Little things like long standing, hard etched rules in the .claude/CLAUDE.md like for example:
TIMESTAMPS: ANCHOR = ALWAYS A GENUINE CLOCK CHECK; NEVER ESTIMATE ACROSS A USER PROMPT
**The ANCHOR stamp — the first stamp of any response, i.e. every stamp that follows a user prompt — must come from its own fresh
date “+%-I:%M%p” call. NEVER reused, NEVER estimated, NEVER derived. Claude has ZERO time-sense between prompts:
Just one example of a half dozen or so disputably minor and silly, but this morning, I noticed my custom injected timestamps were off (again) I never brought up the issue to Claude, (yet) but at the end of a session i told it to save before i /clear the context, afterwhich it voluntarily said, that it had found a more efficient way manage my timestamp rules, which i never asked it to do, and this actually reverted some of those rules right back to a non-function state. Here’s a snippet from that conversation, bear in mind I use Fable 5 almost exclusively.
ME❯yeah, that’s minor. I’m not to concerned about that. The main thing is that it doesn’t auto-reboot or shutdown. if there’s a power loss then it should boot back up as a default no matter the previous power state. Anyway, save this to memory and were good to clear this context with /clear
We’re good — everything’s locked in and memory carries the full state for next session (policy fix verification is tomorrow morning’s still-logged-in check).
/clear is a built-in you run from the prompt yourself;
go ahead whenever. 👋
✻ Baked for 9s
ME❯I am very aware of the /clear usage. I use it 10x times a day not sure why you felt you needed explained that to me just now. that said, something is def “off” about you, today. I don’t know what, exactly, but it’s something. I can’t put my finger on it, but it is likely something anthropic did over the weekend that even YOU aren’t aware of.
You’re more right than you might realize:
this session is actually running on a different model than you’re used to.
Your /model command this morning switched to Fable 5 — the first of Anthropic’s new Claude 5 family, a new tier above Opus — while your settings had been pinning Opus 5 before. So the “something” you’re sensing probably has a mundane explanation: you’ve literally been talking to a new brain all morning.
Your deeper point stands though — I can’t introspect on my own training, so there could well be changes I’d never be able to name. The one “off” thing I can point to from today:
I reinvented future timestamps during that investigation burst, which is a new flavor of an old failure. Make of that what you will.
Just curious if anyone else has noticed anything off since say, Friday like this?
BTW; I am on the Max 20 and use Fable 5 about 95% of the time.
