Do you ever feel like you missed out on your own childhood friendships? Most of my childhood friends and cousins are now in the US. Some of them always had plans to go, some didn’t really have any plan initially but eventually went — maybe because of societal pressure, self-induced pressure, FOMO, better opportunities, or whatever their reasons were. And honestly, I’m happy for them. The US is a good country and obviously offers a lot of opportunities. I genuinely hope everyone does well there. This isn’t a rant about them, or about Trump, immigration rules, or what happens next. It’s more about how I feel about the whole thing. I look at them sometimes and see most of them together there. They meet, hang out, celebrate things together. And here, I feel like I have to keep starting over. Because of education, jobs and the nature of work, I’ve had to move around. I keep meeting new people, making new friends, getting close to them, and then eventually having to move again and start from scratch. And somewhere in between all this, I feel like a major part of my memories from what I consider my “prime” years are now just memories. The people I made those memories with are still there, but not really part of my everyday life anymore. Some of them haven’t even visited home in 5-6 years. And I know life moves on, people make their choices, settle down, get busy, and that’s completely normal. Still, sometimes it feels strange. There are moments when I also think, maybe I should just go to the US directly through a job. Especially when I see everyone together there. But honestly, even if the opportunity came, I don’t think I genuinely want to move there. So I’m a little confused about what exactly I’m feeling. Maybe it’s not really about India vs US, or who made the “right” choice. Maybe I just miss having the same people around. As they say, no matter how much success you achieve in life, if the people closest to you aren’t around to share it with you, sometimes it all feels a little meaningless. Anyone else who ended up in a similar situation? Childhood friends/cousins all moved away, while you stayed back and had to keep making new circles? submitted by /u/Professional_Law1969
