What do I say? I don’t wanna say no outright, but dinner dates as a first date is high risk and expensive. I’m a 23 year old guy who’s just started his career, not really earing big bucks… Need advice gents EDIT: We matched on Hinge, and it’s a Friday night. I’m moving out of my apartment soon, which is where she lives as well, and we’ve been talking for some time. I think she’s really cute, so I said, like, yo, let’s go for some drinks before I go. I know a couple of nice bars, and she was initially down, but then she asked if we could do dinner instead. The dinner places around me are quite expensive, though. All I can really afford is to take her for drinks because I know I probably won’t drink as much, so at least I’ll be able to afford hers. Like, I’m in London as well, so people should please understand that things are very expensive here, and wages aren’t exactly super high in the UK. So it’s not that I’m being a cheapskate. I’m just trying to be smart with my money as a young person. I’ve also had experiences before where I’ve been used or ghosted after a first date, so my policy now is literally just not to spend too much money on a first date. That way, if it doesn’t go anywhere, I’m not sitting there regretting how much I spent. submitted by /u/Many_Till_6863
