So i’m married for 3 years now. I’ve noticed that my wife believes i’m highly stupid, incredibly stupid. The more i live, the more that seems like it. I know i’m not (not that i am above average either, to be honest), the thing is that one quality of mine that many have mentioned already is humility. Because there are too many things to know in the world i usually prefer not to be too sure about things, so when i know something i say it, and if questioned i immediately question myself because i know i might be wrong about some things. That being said, i’ve come to notice my wife is the opposite, she is overconfident and often arrogant. Historically i never cared of what people thought of my intelligence, i usually just read and keep the thoughts to myself, but as a married man i’d like to share things with my wife, and talk, and the whole thing that comes with companionship. In the beginning she would listen to me, like she would listen to anyone, but now there’s not a moment i can remember where she was interested on anything i have to say. At first i thought ‘oh well maybe i got boring’, so i started policing myself, trying to realise what is it that i’m talking about, but truthfully i’m not that talkative so i usually will talk when it’s something that is not ordinary. Today i had something to share with her, and it was some breaking point for me. There was this thing she’s been talking about for a whole month now, a supplement. Last night, by absolute chance, i saw something that clarified some of her wonderings. So today during breakfest i mentioned “You know what i found out about that?”, and her immediate response was “I don’t but i’m sure it’s irrelevant”. That was harsh thing for me, so i just said ‘i see’ and obviously didn’t share. I’ve been thinking since then what is it that happened. I’m not this ultra passive guy who will do all sorts of stuff to give any reason for her to lose respect for me at this level. I have my own goals, i have my own opinions and i will disagree with her when i think she’s wrong. How are you supposed to act in a situation like this? I’ve talked to her about this, by the way, many times. I’ve asked her why she doesn’t like to talk to me, or why she believes i’m that stupid, what is it that i did that gave her this image of me. All of this i asked so i could get a feedback, but i didn’t get anything from it. I guess i can’t just not change anything anymore, right? submitted by /u/TooMuchDread
