We are expecting our first child in a few months, and I would be grateful to anyone who can help us understand the steps we need to take to obtain a birth certificate once the child is born. We are married, and both US citizens We want to apply for the child’s US citizenship as soon as possible after the birth I have heard that there can be some complications and delays with the Swiss authorities issuing a birth certificate to parents who are not Swiss. There is a possibility that we will repatriate when the child is around 7 months old, so I’m not sure how this would work in practice if our Swiss permits expired, but our child did not yet have a passport. Here are some additional details: When our B permits were initially approved, we were not yet married. My spouse’s visa was approved under family unification. We got married a few days before we arrived in Switzerland. We are wondering if we are already registered as a family, as we needed to provide our birth and marriage certificates after we arrived. Canton is Zug Questions: How can we find out if we are already registered as a family? If we are not yet registered as a family, what are the steps? We would appreciate a link to a government website rather than word-of-mouth information. I assume that it is best to do this now, rather than waiting until the child is born. How long is the process? What would happen if our residence in Switzerland ended, but the baby does not yet have a passport? submitted by /u/Ok_Broccoli_658
