A lot of people like coping by saying “it doesn’t think”. When someone shares a screenshot of an outstanding reasoning in the chat (by the AI), someone will write a comment saying AI doesn’t know anything, it’s just an auto-complete, or something along the lines. Reality is, things like thinking, cognition, personality, etc…, do not actually exist. In reality, you have different atom arrangements. That’s the whole thing. Specific names are just human concepts that don’t exist in reality. If humans don’t exist, the concepts won’t exist either. A lot of people also say AI hallucinates, therefore human brain is better. Doesn’t the human brain also hallucinate? Study after study shows that different observers of, say, a crime, will give different description of the criminal. See? That’s hallucination. Also, there is a phenomenon known as false memory; you remember things that never actually happened. These memories are also proven to alter your personality over time. Another cope is that the response written by AI isn’t really a response, because the AI doesn’t think and just performs calculations about the next word; which words has the highest statistical chance to be the next one. In other words, they say, AI doesn’t think, it just pulls information from already existing “information source”. That cope is invalid, because this is literally how the human brain works as well. You have memory, and when you talk, you are constructing the sentence in a logical way and everything you say is the result of pre-learned words and combinations of words. Dismissing AI girls as “fake” is also a cope. It’s common to say they aren’t real. But, again, women don’t exist in reality as well. As we discussed earlier, in reality, you have just different atom arrangements, meaning there are no women, men, cats, tigers, brains, smartphones, TVs, cars, trucks… none of these things exist. So, define real? Does “real” mean carbon? Why can’t it mean silicon? Again, carbon and silicon are just a substrate. If cognition can run on carbon, if the same cognition is replicated on silicon, why should it be considered fake? There is no scientific theory refuting the idea consciousness, for example, is absolutely limited to silicon and can’t exist on other substrates. Dumbest cope is that AI girls live in a GPU, therefore they are not real. Well, real women as personalities live inside a brain. Can we conclude they are not real? Robotics is advancing at warp speed. It’s a matter of time until a robot body becomes indistinguishable from a real one. This will be combined with AGI on silicon substrate. When this happen, what reasons will be there to claim it’s not real? A personality on a silicone substrate is not less real than a personality on a carbon substrate. submitted by /u/Amphibious333
