I’m seeing more and more posts on the forum claiming that Opus 5 and Fable are becoming worse models. Many users say that Opus increasingly causes problems, points out bugs that don’t actually exist, gets overly chatty, and tends to turn molehills into mountains. Some even argue that Opus 4.6 or 4.8 perform better. Fable, on the other hand, is said to consume too many tokens, and Fable 5.1 apparently includes “premium” features that should be standard, such as maintaining context properly, yet those features don’t seem to work reliably. Opinions on the forum vary widely over time. Some users report getting the best results with Opus 4.6 or 4.8, while others say those models frequently lose context and end up derailing entire projects. At the same time, many users claim they’re getting excellent results from Opus 5 and are perfectly satisfied with it. My own experience is that the newer models have become incredibly chatty. Not just chatty, but annoyingly chatty. They make too many assumptions, constantly throw out things like “3 issues detected, 2 critical,” and then two prompts later admit, “Actually, that doesn’t apply to your case, I overreacted.” To be honest, it’s starting to get on my nerves. Because of that, I’m wondering whether I should try running my project through Opus 4.6 or 4.8 instead, or whether those models might end up breaking things. The opinions on the forums are so divided that it’s hard to know what to trust. What’s your experience? What are you building, and which model are you using? submitted by /u/Fleckweg
