With the release of Astra, many users including myself seem to have switched or are in the process of switching from Claude Code to Codex. But why? You might ask… Well. Let’s address the elephant in the room shall we? Fable 5.1, amazing model. It gets shit done the right way, the first time. It’s truly magical, a true technological advancement in AI. For about an hour. Then you can’t use it for another 4. And 4 more hours of usage, you can’t use it for another week. 16 hours a month (give or take, without resets) for $200 a month. I hear the same old things being said. “You’re not supposed to use Fable to code” “Just have it orchastrate Opus” So on and so fourth. Well then why is it a coding model? Why should I have to use Opus to code, make a ton of errors, create shitty UI, etc., just to have Fable go in and fix it all, to what? Stretch my usage by an extra 30 minutes maybe? Here’s the hard truth, Fable is a great model. It’s the best model. But it’s useless in the sense that you cannot daily(hourly) drive it. Here’s a stat no one includes in their benchmarks, usability/usage. Here’s a hot take, Fable is actually the worst model. It’s the worst model because you can barely use it.
