My dad has always had woodworking as a hobby. It’s his thing. Every weekend he’s in his workshop doing some type of project, or he’s modeling/sketching his next project. He’s very much a handy man type of guy. He remodeled our entire kitchen almost entirely on his own. Well, he retired about four months ago, and not even three months in he cut off his finger. It’s been about a month and he’s in the stage of recovery where he’s doing occupational therapy but he can’t return to woodworking for another couple weeks at least. He can’t lift anything either. Even when he gets the clear from his doctor he’s probably going to struggle with it (since it was his right index finger he cut off). He’s done a couple small things around the house but I can tell he’s starting to get stir crazy. He’s mostly been watching TV or messing around on his computer. He’s a crafty guy. He’s done model kits and legos before, but I’m not sure how well he’ll be able to do them independently because of his limited dexterity. We finished up a Lego set today with me helping him for parts of it. He’s not much of a reader and he is very much a home body. The only places he’ll go is Lowe’s or out to eat. Even though it’s only a few more weeks before he can start woodworking again, this has made my mom and I realize that he doesn’t do much outside of woodworking. If, in the future, something happens again, or when he gets too old to do big projects, we want to make sure he’s got something else to do. As well as the next three weeks before he can get back to work. So, what are some hobbies he could pick up? Anything that would allow him to still make something but also wouldn’t be a strain on his hand? Or something that would give his brain something to do? submitted by /u/EcoloCantSwim
