I recently had to let go of my girlfriend of a year due to logistical reasons. The biggest reasons are our kids. Her son has some pretty severe behavioral issues due to his father illegally obtaining him and keeping him from my ex for 6 months. Dude was a complete loser and certainly abused and manipulated that poor boy. He’s 7, and my son is 4. We were dating for about 8 months before she got him back. A few months in he would start to try to hit her, and myself a couple times. Scream profanities, and just have complete meltdowns. The most recent incident involved him trying to take a gun from the school security officer, and was sedated and sent to a mental hospital. That’s what triggered me to make the decision I did. He is seeing a therapist, and she’s doing everything she can as a mother to support her son. For context my son is the sweetest boy in the world. I’m not saying this with ego, but I know his innocence is to be protected. I never brought him around her or her son because I’m not one to rush that, and don’t want him getting attached until I know for certain any woman would become apart of my life long term. She brought me around her son because I’m a gentle and grounded man, and she felt I could help by being a positive male influence in his life. In hindsight, maybe it was too soon. But after witnessing her son’s behavior and violent outbursts, I realized I could never safely blend our families, and decided to end things. But between her and I directly, I’ve never felt so much emotional connection and contentment. We truly shared such a special connection and I’ve never felt that kind of real, grounded love before. But I decided to call it because I would never put my son in an unsafe environment, and that’s exactly what her son would’ve been doing. And I couldn’t hang around waiting to see if her son improved, because I believe he is dealing with some serious PTSD and possibly long term mental health issues that I would likely be detrimental to my sons wellbeing, or to my relationship with my son. But it still hurts like hell. I’m trying not to tell myself I’ll never find love like that again, but that’s how I feel. So men, does anyone have a similar experience? How did you grieve losing real love that simply couldn’t exist for whatever valid reason? Anything helps, I’m just trying to get though this. submitted by /u/Erosiiion
