Would a model decide your questions require less compute time and allocate less resources to delivering the answer? Would that make an LLM a sort of ‘rational economist’ of thermodynamics, weighing the value of more computation against its physical cost, or simply recognising that its own computational resources aren’t limitless? What happens when computation stops being a free resource supplied from outside and becomes a cost the agent itself has to account for?
