Yep, that’s me. I am not a coder but have been using Claude Code with Max 5 plan in the last I don’t know how many months. Then, I bought the Pro 5x model from ChatGPT and have been testing it like crazy for the work I’m doing. The work I’m doing is not crazy biotechnology or cybersecurity things but stuff like:
- Writing ads, landing page content, etc. using our brand guidelines.
- Creating landing pages, getting test ideas.
- Creating data visualizations from our account performance, test results, and overall numbers.
- For my side projects, creating Youtube scripts, automation for research, etc. The issues I’ve had with Fable and the reason I wanted to test Codex was:
- Limits. Inconsistent limits, similar tasks sometimes using 10% of my limit sometimes all of it.
- Downtime. I couldn’t leave my computer to complete a task because I’ve been getting API errors all time and process is stopped.
- Abysmal context management. 1 million context filling in 1 hour work and quality dropping.
- Verbal diarrhea. I’ve noticed I spend half my day trying to understand what exactly is it being said and remove BS from the codes generated. Everything felt so bloated.
- Toxic corporate tactics of Anthropic like saying “check your internet connection” when they are down. Not showing down status correctly in status page, consistently saying stuff like “your limits increased for now!”, models being available sometimes, sometimes, not. All the BS you all know about. Here is my experience with Astra and Codex. tl;dr I think they successfully addressed many of the issues I’ve been having (and probably like a million other people).
- I was worried about the context length being something like 258k (can’t fully remember what it was) but when it closes to the limit, auto compact handles it and quality stays the same.
- Weekly limits instead of 5 hour. It is a great relief because sometimes I work like 6-7 hours and don’t work some days. 5 hour limit was killing me.
- No verbal diarrhea. This is the best thing. It does the job, briefly explains.
- Definitely faster.
- No downtime for now. I know ChatGPT can also get down times, but not a single day passed in the last 2 months that I haven’t had a down day or my tasks were stopping. – There are other stuff like very good image generation that Claude cannot do but I don’t really use it so it is fine. I’m not good enough to judge the model quality or protein folding research shit as I’m just a regular guy doing digital marketing and some data analysis, also having a side Youtube channel but overall feel is Codex is much easier to work with, Open AI does not gaslight you like Anthrophic. I was really tired of Claude Code saying “I need to check my VPN or connection” while their servers don’t respond. I have had all my work with Claude so my context files are in Claude md format. Codex was able to grasp it and continue where I was left off. So, there was not switch issues. I’ll keep testing the next month but so far, I don’t see any reason to keep paying to Claude Code just to lose my mind every day for every single little task just because they are #1 in trust me bro benchmarks. submitted by /u/eneskaraboga
