OSRS currently has The Inferno for a melee reward, and The Colosseum for a ranged reward. The Crucible is my proposal for a third end-game challenge for a magic reward. While the other two do permit all three combat types, The Crucible is a challenge designed specifically to test your magical capabilities, and so melee and ranged attacks are forbidden. In The Crucible, you are unable to bring anything but equipped items and runes. Therein, you are set to face a continuous onslaught of progressively more challenging unique enemies with various elemental weaknesses (which may change as you fight them), while you have to keep an offering sand timer full until you defeat the final boss. If you die or if the sand timer runs out, you lose. Within the arena are magic altars, allowing you to swap spellbooks as needed. Each altar only allows you to swap to one type, meaning you must run around the arena to swap between them. Standard spellbook lets you take advantage of elemental weaknesses. Ancient magicks let you heal via blood spells and disorient opponents with shadow spells. Lunar spellbook lets you use humidify to wash away hazards around the arena left by your enemies. Of course, it also lets you use spellbook swap to quickly access the other spellbooks if needed without needing to run to a magic altar (this is impractical for more than a single cast or two though). Arceuus spellbook lets you use the offering spells to regain prayer points and to keep the sand timer topped up. This creates a natural requirement for you to utilize all four spellbooks, proving your capabilities as a mage. Completing The Crucible rewards you with a new BIS magic back slot item, comparable to the Inferno Cape and Dizana’s Quiver. Some potential special features of the back slot item would be acting as an infinite source of elemental runes, allowing you to wear a rune pouch on your back, or adding the lunar spellbook swap to all four spellbooks (still only to cast one spell, not permanently changing your active spellbook). submitted by /u/LoganJFisher
