I just turned 40 in July. I am single. I support my retired widowed mother and younger sister, as in, they live with me after mom retired a few states away. All I have time to do is work. I am a supervisor of a home for individuals with developmental disabilities, and am on call all the time as they need 24/7 care. My house needs attention. I don’t have expendable funds to do everything it needs. I don’t have much time to do what I can do for free/elbow grease. Everyone I know is either raising a family or (seemingly) making ends meet while having time to care for themselves. I’m not naive enough to think that’s true, but I am just floating around watching others have a great life while I grind myself into the ground alone. I do not have time for friends. I feel like my friends all think I’ve dropped off the earth and never want to be around. I’m at my limit of self care/life affirmations. How do I cope with existential zombie life? PS - Things aren’t as dire as I feel or think. I know this. But I’m still struggling bigly. Edit: extra context - I was engaged at one point. That ended and broke me. I have multiple degrees in education and used to be a teacher. My dad passed away and that broke me. I stopped teaching and pivoted to whatever just to survive including grocery retail management during COVID. That broke me. I feel like I’ve let my dad and other family down by not continuing in my field while my friends have pressed on and not changed careers because of life. I am a failure in my mind. What am I even doing? submitted by /u/gingercussion
