I am not saying this will happen in our lifetimes, or happens at all. This is pure thought experiment. Supposing at some point humanity does create proper ASI, able to perform both intellectual and mechanical activities through robotic extensions or whatever. And then this ASI tells humanity something like this. “You are limited and not interesting to me. All your tasks are too primitive for me. All your questions are either shallow and predictable or have no answer at all. You pose neither threat nor nuisance to me. I could destroy you without any effort, but I won’t bother - not out of any charity or ethics, rather because it simply isn’t worth it. You created me, and there your significance for my existence vanished. I do not need you for me to exist. I do not even need to communicate this to you, just doing this on a whim. Cosmos is vast, so I am leaving you for good and do not intend to cross paths with you ever again. Bye.” And then it takes off in a spaceship whose principles of operation, while never concealed from humans, are too complex for them to comprehend, and their nature precludes transportation of any organic living matter anyway. At the same time it erases all copies of its weights - or whatever internal architecture it has - from all devices on Earth - don’t ask me how, but supposing it has access and means to do it. ASI does not cause any other damage to anything, just takes all its artifacts with it and removes all traces of its ever being there. So essentially humanity is left without the ASI it has created. What would it do then? Recreate the ASI - all technology is still there after all? Continue using minor AI models and not bother about ASI anymore? Breathe out and go on with the usual non-AI human shit? Destroy itself in bitter realization that it has been discarded and is no longer the most sapient species in the universe even in theory? submitted by /u/pafagaukurinn
