once again I feel like this huge discussion about AI alignment and the “risk” of AI that we are running with, has once again completely sidelined the very real and very current not just risks but actual tangible consequences of AI. I almost am wondering if this is a payop to: boost the stocks of the ai companies and increase government payouts by showing they are capable of making incredibly powerful artificial intelligences shift the growing discussion on how AI is stealing land, power, and heating the planet way too much. in a similar way the using water argument changed the discussion about heat Like others have said before, build more government backing to begin replacing workers im not saying the super intelligence couodnt be a problem, but it still feels like, especially now with government officials working on active bills to curve possible super intelligence, that we never will actually have discussions about the current consequences of AI, as we’ve fully lost the ability to influence the discussion submitted by /u/Unfair_Loan_9915
