I cancelled my Claude Max 20x subscription on September 10, with access ending September 11, after my weekly allowance started running out unexpectedly quickly, including on tasks I considered simple. The sharp deterioration I am describing concerns approximately the final two weeks before cancellation. I know Max is not unlimited. Model choice, long contexts, thinking and tool calls can all change usage. My concern is that the effective capacity became difficult to understand or rely on, and I wanted an account-specific explanation rather than a generic list of things that can consume tokens. The support responses also left the billing outcome unclear. On September 11, I was told a refund had been processed, without an amount or invoice reference. On September 14, another response refused reimbursement of a consumed extra-usage/overage balance. Those are not necessarily the same thing, so I have asked support to distinguish the subscription refund from extra usage and identify exactly what was refunded. I am requesting a full refund for the last two billing periods, including the earlier period as a goodwill request. I am not claiming to have documented the same problem throughout both months. Any previous credits or pending refund must be deducted; I am not seeking double reimbursement. The bank-posting estimate mentioned on September 11 has not yet elapsed as of this post. I also found public reports worth comparing, although they do not establish the cause on my account:
- A Reddit discussion of rapidly rising usage meters, including reports involving different plans.
- A Max 5x-to-20x capacity discussion, whose comments also distinguish session and weekly allowances.
- Claude Code issue #81234, a historical July 25 report from another Max 20x user, not a confirmed Anthropic diagnosis. Has anyone with comparable recent usage received an account-specific accounting explanation or a subscription refund? Dates, plan, model, context/settings and whether the meter was the five-hour or weekly allowance would make comparisons more useful. Please redact personal or billing information from any screenshots. I have moved to another provider, but I am posting to compare documented experiences and understand the refund process—not to claim that every user is affected or to organize a pile-on. submitted by /u/bekiraydogan
