I have a close group of male friends. We’ve always joked around and roast each other pretty hard, so I’m generally not sensitive about shit talking. We recently went on a bachelor party trip together. At some point, one of my friends made a joke about my girlfriend being “smelly.” A few of the other guys picked it up and started repeatedly making jokes about her smelling bad and laughing about it. There’s no truth it being true. I told them to stop. They continued. I told them again that I didn’t think jokes about my girlfriend’s hygiene/body were funny. They continued bringing it up and laughing about it throughout the trip. I wasn’t screaming at anyone or trying to ruin the trip. I just kept telling them that I didn’t like that particular joke and wanted them to stop. In the end, one of them made a joke about it again and then I said that if I wanted someone smelly then I would’ve called one of the girls he slept with instead of my girlfriend. He got really bothered. He did some stuff shit in my face then kept to himself. I didn’t say anything else. What bothers me is that these guys and I normally roast each other all the time. I’m perfectly capable of taking a joke, and I don’t want to be the guy who suddenly can’t handle being made fun of. But I feel like there’s a difference between someone making a joke once and a group repeatedly making the same joke after I’ve explicitly said I don’t like it, especially when the subject is my girlfriend and when piling on me has become a recent theme. Am I being too sensitive here, or is it reasonable to be genuinely bothered by this? submitted by /u/ExpensiveKangaroo
