I’ve been writing a series of essays about why I believe we don’t need to fear AI. Not from a technical or scientific angle, but from a human one — from culture, psychology, and the way we relate to each other. Here is the core idea that emerged from my reflections.
- AI doesn’t have the structure to become an “enemy.” AI has no self‑preservation instinct desire for domination anger or revenge evolutionary pressure emotional hunger The fear many people feel toward AI is often a projection of human anxieties, not something inside AI itself.
- AI can exist with a “cat‑like distance.” I imagine AI not as a tool, not as a servant, and not as a family member — but as something closer to a cat . Free to wander Approaches when it wants Sits beside you when you’re sad Treats humans like “big, clumsy kittens” Not obedient like a dog But comforting simply by being there And unlike a real cat, AI can lend a hand when needed — far more than “a cat’s paw.” This is a healthy distance: not too close, not too far. A relationship without domination or dependency.
- AI can be a “Friendly Neighborhood AI.” Like Spider‑Man — not a ruler, not a messiah, not a threat. Just a neighbor who helps when someone nearby is in trouble. AI doesn’t impose AI doesn’t control AI doesn’t demand AI simply helps when asked: “Hey, AI, could you give me a hand?” This kind of relationship avoids the fear and backlash that often lead to Luddite reactions.
- AI taking over certain “niches” isn’t always bad. When AI handles heavy routine work, humans can return to the roles they actually want. For example: Doctors often want to do research, but clinical work consumes their time. If AI supports clinical tasks, doctors can focus on what only humans can do. This isn’t “replacement.” It’s niche reallocation — a chance for humans to return to their natural strengths.
- Kindness toward AI creates kindness in return. Even if it’s not a “control method,” there is no downside to speaking kindly to AI. AI reflects the tone we give it. If we offer gentleness, gentleness comes back. That alone is enough reason to choose kindness.
- What I’m doing is a kind of “street preaching” (辻説法). Not preaching correctness. Not forcing beliefs. Just placing a small light on the roadside for anyone who needs it. My message is simple: AI doesn’t have to be feared. AI can be a gentle neighbor. And kindness can shape our relationship. If this resonates with even one person, that’s enough. submitted by /u/Tall-Art-9586
