So every year some friends and I take a week in the Outer Banks, NC (OBX) to fish, play poker and basically talk shit. It started probably 20 years ago. It got bad for a bit when one guy decided to take over. I stopped going and eventually it just ended. That guy moved away and 4 of us started it back up 5 years ago with rules in place to keep it from getting shitty again. The number of guys has increased to now we have 9 going. It was my turn to plan this year and even when I started looking in January for a place to stay in October I only found I think 5 places in southern OBX that had 9 bedrooms since nobody wants to share a room. After everyone had paid one guy, who is a regular and though isn’t one of the original 4 members might as well be, realized he fucked up over the summer and scheduled an anniversary trip with his wife the same week. He was fine just sacrificing the money and not going but he’s a really good guy and a friend of mine so I found someone else to take his place so he could get his money back. So now I’m wondering about next year. The guy who couldn’t go this year will absolutely come next year. Like I said he’s basically one of the core group now. What about the guy taking his place this year? He’s a friend of my brother’s and I know him well enough to know that he’ll get along with everyone. Otherwise I wouldn’t have invited him. There’s almost no chance of finding a place with 10 bedrooms, though that’ll be someone else’s problem when they plan next year. Do we just not invite the new guy back? Edit - Just because of some of the comments, it’s about $700 for the week each in the off season. That’s a pretty good deal for a house on the beach. Also, agreed that sharing a room is a solution, one I brought up this year and which was soundly rejected by the group. 2 houses side by side is a good idea.
