A growing amount of online content is now created for machines rather than people. Websites publish hundreds of bland articles hoping to appear in AI answers. Companies release “research” designed to get their products mentioned by chatbots. Search results fill up with summaries copied from summaries of other summaries. Then AI data labs scrape the internet to sell the data all over the world to create the next generation of models. At the same time, AI answers reduce the reason to visit the original websites. Why click through to a small blog, forum, or independent publication when a chatbot gives you a clean answer immediately? That convenience has a cost. Those sites lose readers, money, and eventually the motivation to keep publishing. The sources of AI depends on slowly disappearing while the generated copies multiply. You can already feel it when searching for something specific. Even the mistakes get repeated because every site is recycling the same material.
