I just read a post about whether generative AI will “kill” the novel. The author asks whether the high volume and low cost of AI-assisted publishing could make it harder for human-written fiction to be discovered, especially in highly competitive self-publishing environments. The author, both an AI specialist and an independent novelist, distinguishes between using AI for research or professional purposes and using it to produce prose. They maintain that doing the latter changes the nature of authorship for those who consider the act of writing as important. The article clearly supports the view that human authorship should be preferred. I’m interested to know what people believe. Should readers, for instance, be made aware when a book has been involved with AI?
