Looking back, I realize that most of my close male friendships from teen and early adulthood kind of hinged on the pursuit of female relationships. A couple of these relationships ended due to both of us getting married, the spouses not clicking (in one case spouses actively disliking each other). A couple more, sadly ended due to death. I’m not into sports, which suddenly seems like a big deficit. Sports seems like the lingua franca of male-male bonding. I joined a local game club for a few monthly gatherings, but it seemed very, um, socially sterile? I realize I really like gaming in the context of people who are good friends, first, who have much to discuss besides gaming. I understand it takes a while to build up trust, and share personal info, but I’m not getting that vibe these days. From an awful lot of people, I am getting a “forever acqaintance” vibe. Not sure really solid friendships can form in old age. But open to any insights or advice! submitted by /u/Armithax
