I simulated the full FlyWire fruit-fly connectome and asked it to complete World 1-1 in Super Mario Bros. 3 using chessfly as inspiration. Technical ingredients:
- 138,639 LIF neurons
- 15.1M connections
- 10,855 visual-input neurons
- 41,692 central/descending readout neurons
- PPO + self-imitation
- 378,000 training decisions
- Every attempt started at the beginning Its greatest discovery was that pressing A forever is technically a policy. It crossed the first pipe occasionally during exploration, reached a best distance of 2,083, then converged to jumping vertically while forgetting that Mario can move right.
