Over the past several years, I have had many negative experiences with elderly Swiss people. I will accept their occasional annoyance with taking a phonecall on public transportation… however I’ve also been scolded for slouching against the window and drinking coffee on the train. Or there was the time that I actually struck up a conversation with a woman but accidentally said “tu” instead of “vous” and she literally stopped talking and walked off. Essentially, I thought old Swiss people were all the worst. But since my baby was born, I’ve done a 180 in my thinking. Not a single day of my sons life has gone by where we haven’t been stopped on the street by an old man or woman who just wants to coo at the baby a little bit, and ask how old he is, does he get enough sleep, etc, etc. I’ve never had so many spontaneous conversations on the street since I moved here.
