Hi everyone, I’d like to start hiking and do moderate hikes maybe 2-3 times a year. So far I’ve just done it in jeans and Nike Air Max. I’ve even done the Pilatus that way, 1000 meters of elevation, a T3 trail. Now I was thinking maybe you could recommend some hiking gear for me. But I don’t want to go completely overboard, since I’ll only be doing it 2-3 times a year, and I’d rather only buy stuff that makes hiking a bit more comfortable. What are some basic things that make hiking a bit more pleasant? Is a normal backpack fine, or does a hiking backpack make you sweat less? Is a normal sports shirt enough, or are there pants or shirts that are actually worth it, or is that overkill for a casual hiker like me? As for shoes, I know there are people who swear by only hiking in proper hiking boots and say nothing else works at all. So far it’s gone fine without them. So my question is: is there some affordable gear at Decathlon that would be worth picking up for a weekend hike, that would make hiking a bit more comfortable for me? submitted by /u/Vas1r
