I’ve (20F) been dating my boyfriend (21M) for about 6 months. His father passed away a couple years ago. Things have been going really well between us. I’m so in love with him. Recently, I noticed changes in him. A little more distant, nothing major. But he just seemed…different. There was less effort put into the relationship. He didn’t really want to go anywhere. It got to the point where I thought it was me so I got upset with him and asked him if he still wanted to be with me. He broke down to me and told me he’s not okay mentally and he hasn’t been for a little while. He told me his dad’s death is hitting him harder the older he gets. He reassured me over and over again that I didn’t do anything wrong and that he loves me and wants to be with me. He just needs some space. It hurt my feelings, but I didn’t tell him that. I didn’t want to make it about me. He also told me I was the first person that made him feel like it was okay to open up as a man. And that he’s been suppressing his emotions for years and he can’t anymore. Idk what to do. I want to fix this but I can’t. I don’t know how to be there for him, because I’ve never been though something so traumatizing. Any advice is appreciated. I just want to be the best support I can to him submitted by /u/SelectGold7587
