While its competitor Prodega (Coop) only sells to food professionals and therefore requires a business customer card to enter its stores, Aligro wholesale stores are open to anyone. However, I recently learnt from their website that two particular stores of the chain, the ones in Bern and Pratteln, require customers to have a customer card for legal reasons ( In den Märkten in Bern und Pratteln ist die Kundenkarte aus rechtlichen Gründen obligatorisch. ). I’m really curious to know what kind of special law cantons BE and BL have which mandates this. It’s not that you need to be a food professional because Aligro customer cards are available to private individuals for free, rather that you apparently can’t buy wholesale anonymously there. Is it a matter of food safety, to be sure the store can find you and notify you in case of a product recall? Is it rather an accounting/taxes matter? submitted by /u/VoidDuck
