I did some preliminary testing by running Opus 5.5 as the main agent with Sonnet 5 as the implementation agents for ~6 hours, then Opus 5.5 with Opus 5.5 implementation agents. I simply asked Claude “We have recently switched the subagents from sonnet to opus. Can we evaluate if this has already being proven useful?” Results (comparing 27 Sonnet vs 27 Opus runs): Sonnet (per run, median) Duration: 14 minutes Tool calls: 90 Cost: $2.20 Opus (per run, median) Duration: 9 minutes Tool calls: 40 Cost: $1.10 Verdict : Opus 5.5 costs twice as much per token as Sonnet 5, but each run is cheaper because it takes fewer turns. Most of the cost is cached context re-read on every turn. The orchestrator had to fix about 8 of 25 Sonnet results and 3 of 23 Opus results. submitted by /u/ClemensLode
