My brother (hi if you’re reading this) is a German citizen, has a Bachelor’s degree, and has been unemployed for almost a year. His B permit expires at the end of October. He applied for a B permit extension. A few weeks later, the authorities asked him to provide some additional information such as a debt enforcement register extract and confirmation that he does not receive social assistance. So far so good, a short while later: “As German citizen, we cannot extend your B-Permit. Attached is the C permit “auf amtswegen” .” His wife (hi to you too) is an EU citizen from another EU country, specialized, has two PhD, and has never been unemployed. She applied for an early C permit. Rejected. The reason? Some of the documents apparently weren’t translated in a way the authorities found satisfactory. She was given a one-year B permit extension instead, with the suggestion to submit the C permit application again once all documents are in the required form. So we have: German citizen + unemployed for almost a year + didn’t actively ask for it → C permit EU citizen + PhD + continuously employed → C permit application rejected over document translations Obviously, there are probably legal and administrative details behind both decisions, but still its hard to comprehend for me. Even after reading here that people here struggle getting C when they’re unemployed, even for a short period. Is this just normal Swiss bureaucracy? submitted by /u/Electrical_Region741
