Hi everyone, I’m posting on behalf of a friend who’s looking to start a food truck business in Switzerland. They’re new to the industry and are trying to understand the basics before taking the plunge. If you’ve worked in the food truck business in Switzerland (or currently run one), we’d really appreciate your insights 🙏 Here are some of the big questions we have so far:
- Where do you even start — business plan first, truck first, permits first?
- How do you buy a food truck in Switzerland? Is it better to buy new, second-hand, or convert a vehicle yourself?
- Roughly what does it cost to get fully set up (truck, equipment, branding, initial inventory, etc.)?
- What licenses and permits are required? (Food safety certification, hygiene training, trade license, etc.)
- How does compliance with Swiss food safety laws work in practice?
- How do you secure spots to operate? Do you lease private spaces, apply through the municipality, or mainly work events and festivals? If you’re open to sharing advice (or even chatting privately), we’d be super grateful. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/meera_jasmine1
