Our 2014 Mercedes B-Class is too small and the infotainment is outdated, so we’re considering options. We want a German car (Mercedes, BMW, or Audi) but not a VW. Has anyone considered the Audi Q5 in a similar situation? I’m trying to decide if it’s the right choice. Here are some details about our situation:
- Family: 3 kids (9, 5, and 3 months old)
- Budget: CHF 30,000–45,000
- Ownership: Plan to keep the car for 5–6 years, then switch to another model
- Resale priority: We want to avoid significant depreciation and make it easy to resell. We prefer a model with strong demand on the Swiss used-car market and a design that looks current in 5–6 years.
- Financing: Prefer leasing, ideally a used car still under warranty and with free servicing. Main question: What’s the best financial option to avoid losing money?
- Lease now, buy the car outright at the end, and resell it ourselves?
- Lease now, return it to the dealer, and lease a new one?
- Consider buying on credit instead of leasing? If anyone has done this calculation before, I’d love to hear how it went. More context:
- Daily driving: Mostly short trips, with one or two long-distance trips per year. I’m looking for a car that’s comfortable with a bigger car, like my dad’s BMW X5, but with a smaller or mid-sized SUV. I prefer a coupe-style silhouette, but it needs to work practically for the back seats, including a baby seat, a seat for the 5-year-old, and the 9-year-old sitting in the middle. The interior doesn’t need to be top-of-the-line, but I’d like a good-looking dashboard, working CarPlay pairing with iPhone. Leather or faux leather seats only, no suede or cloth. I don’t need EV/hybrid charging because I can’t charge at home or work. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been through a similar decision, especially around leasing vs. buying for resale value in Switzerland. submitted by /u/samou88
