the whole point of the chip restrictions was that frontier AI needs massive compute, right? but labs overseas with a fraction of the resources keep dropping models that are close to the top ones, for way cheaper. how? I wonder if the high quality training data might matter way more than people think. currently there aren’t any restrictions on sales to china but US data labs like surgeai are selling them mass amounts of expert training data and undermining the US in the race submitted by /u/biotechplays
