Ford’s CEO said AI would “halve white-collar jobs.” Microsoft’s AI chief gave it 18 months before all white-collar work is automated. JPMorgan told managers to stop hiring. Goldman Sachs is reorganizing “front-to-back” around AI. 55,000 jobs were cut due to AI in 2025 alone, out of 1.17 million total layoffs, the highest since 2020. These aren’t predictions. These are roadmaps. When a company can replace a $120k/year manager with a $20/month AI subscription, they don’t think about it. They just do it. The cascade nobody talks about: You lose your job. You burn through savings. You cash out your 401(k), eat the 10% penalty plus taxes, and a third of your retirement vanishes before it hits your bank account. But you’re not alone. Millions are doing this at the same time. When millions of professionals simultaneously dump homes, liquidate stocks, and sell everything just to eat, the market doesn’t correct. It craters. Your $400k house is worth $220k and you still owe $280k. You’re underwater. Nobody is buying. The US economy is 70% consumer spending, driven overwhelmingly by the middle class. Government programs are mathematically fucked. Social Security runs on payroll taxes from current workers. 184 million people pay in. The trust funds are already projected to go insolvent by 2032-2034 UNDER NORMAL EMPLOYMENT ASSUMPTIONS. At insolvency, benefits get auto-cut 19-24% for everyone. Now add mass AI unemployment. Every $120k job replaced by AI is ~$14,880/year in Social Security revenue that vanishes. Meanwhile the people who lost their jobs in their 50s start drawing benefits early and filing for disability. Revenue collapses while costs spike. Death spiral. The 2025 budget act already drained ~$170 billion from Social Security through 2034. Medicare’s hospital fund hits insolvency by 2032-2033 too. The healthcare system people are told to retrain into is itself collapsing. Nobody is coming to save you. UBI would cost $8.5-12 trillion a year. National debt is $36+ trillion. No budget surplus since 2001. We can’t even keep Social Security solvent or the government open for a full year. We live in a country where half the political establishment thinks universal healthcare is socialism and expanding Medicaid is radical. The current administration just cut 327,000 federal jobs through DOGE and is actively gutting the safety net. These people are not going to pass the largest entitlement program in human history. If you’ve read The Expanse, you know where this ends. Half the population warehoused on government welfare eating protein paste, no money, no education access, no path out, while the employed class lives in a separate universe. Waiting lists for vocational programs stretching over ten years. That was written as a warning. Every structural condition that creates that world is being built right now. The only difference? In The Expanse they at least had Basic. We can’t even agree on that. You did everything right. Degree. Career. Savings. None of it will matter when the entire economic structure your life was built on gets dismantled for quarterly earnings by people worth $200 billion who will never feel a single consequence. When there is no job, no savings, no home, no safety net, no retraining path, and no political will to build one, people break. That is not a prediction.
